Business Development Manager

We are a market leader in the aerospace and defence industries, working with exciting technologies to create some of the world's most advanced composite components. We are seeking a Business Development Manager to join our busy, expanding team at our site in Crewkerne, Somerset.

The role will be responsible for developing and achieving the business strategy through key account management and new business development across existing and new global customers.


  • Generate and achieve sales pipeline through working to achieve revenue and profitability targets in line with company and group objectives.
  • Negotiate all aspects of the commercial contract and proposal to a successful conclusion and highlight potential threats and resolutions to mitigate risk to senior management.
  • Working with the bid team, create commercial and technical responses to customer Requests For Proposal.
  • Understand new avenues for company growth by gathering intelligence on our products and capabilities, customers and competitors, within current and target markets.
  • Report and present business development opportunities, using information gained through market analysis to evaluate and prioritise these opportunities.
  • Promote Tods Aerospace and the Unitech Group. This will include attendance at trade shows, conferences, etc., liaising with appropriate government departments and introducing the Company and Group capabilities to potential new customers.
  • Apply company procedures, rules and policies in all business dealings.
  • Support the Head of Business Development and Managing Director in the formulation of facility, Group & global strategies.
  • Motivate and engage with cross-functional teams within the business.
  • Develop a culture of continuous improvement and embrace lean processes.
  • Act as an ambassador for Tods Aerospace and the Unitech group at all times.


  • Demonstrable business acumen and understanding of customer requirements, including aerospace, mass transit and performance composites market dynamics and drivers, products and technologies.
  • In depth knowledge of the global aerospace market, particularly with regard to the commercial aircraft industry.
  • Knowledge/understanding of composite products, including materials, processing, tool design, design requirements, advantages/disadvantages.
  • Good commercial knowledge with experience in building product cost models and determining market value of components.
  • Able to initiate and maintain productive relationships with new and existing customers and contacts and effectively understand and manage expectations for both internal and external customers.
  • Available to travel both nationally and internationally as and when required to meet business and customer needs.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate across all levels, including presenting, influencing, negotiating and listening.
  • Customer focused and quick to respond.
  • Ability to make decisions in complex/ambiguous situations with incomplete data.
  • A strong team player, able to work on own initiative, with a flexible attitude to work load
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines where customer expectations dictate
