Composites Technician Apprentices

We are a market leader in Aerospace composite manufacturing, working with exciting technologies and materials to design and build some of the world’s most advanced composite structures. We are seeking Composites Technician Apprentices to join our Production team at our site in Crewkerne, Somerset.

Over four years, you will gain a mixture of practical, on the job training with academic trianing on day release at Yeovil College. Whilst at work, you will work in accordance to work instructions and work with the relevant parties to support the production of steady state and new product in the most economic manner to meet the team targets of 100% delivery and quality.

Over the first two years, you will rotate through different areas of the business including Assembly, Clean Room, CNC, Quality and Testing while attending Yeovil College on a day release basis. In third year, you will complete an extended rotation incorporating design engineering and manufacturing engineering, before specialising in your agreed area of the business. A summary of the role is outlined below:

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 -Complete the training to the required standard and obtain the agreed academic qualifications.

 - At work, complete up to eight modules including Clean Room, Trim & Assembly, Quality and CNC (subject to change) over the first 24 months, and an extended module within engineering combining both Design Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering. Specialise and be assessed in an agreed area for the final 18 months.

 - Follow, process and complete all Manufacturing Instruction Sheet documentation as required. Keep accurate and up to date records of work undertaken and keep the relevant documentation with the part to maintain product integrity and traceability of the part, ensuring the work completed is over-stamped by an experienced operator until quality stamp issued.

 - Listen to and respect the mentors who will support your development.

 - Report on your achievements at the end of each module and provide feedback to your mentor, team leader or manager.

 - Make test pieces as per instructions.

 - Maintain the work environment to the agreed standard in line with Health and Safety regulations.

 - Complete and keep up to date relevant documentation including skills matrices, training records and KPI paperwork.

 - Train and mentor colleagues and fellow apprentices.

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:

 - Good practical skills with a high level of manual dexterity and self-organisation

 - 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) at Grade C/Grade 4 or above, to include English, Maths and Science

 - An existing qualification or demonstrable interest within Engineering

 - Good concentration levels and attention to detail

 - The ability to follow written and verbal instructions and accurately keep records

 - A safety-conscious approach to work

 - Must be reliable, have the ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team

 - Continuous Improvement, zero defect and customer focused mind-set

 - A good team player with a flexible attitude to work load
