Materials Testing Technician

We are a market leader in Aerospace and Defence, working with exciting technologies and innovative materials to make some of the world's most advanced composite components. We are seeking a Materials Testing Technician to suport our busy Materials Laboratory at our site in Crewkerne, Somerset

The role will be responsible for testing products to ensure they fully meet the customer acceptance criteria and have been produced in line with the relevant manufacturing instructions / specification. In addition to this, the role will maintain and further develop the test records and analysis to ensure traceability requirements are adhered to. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Daily workload management of Materials Testing Lab
  • Data entry and administration
  • Test sample preparation, visual and mechanical testing of in-process components, including hardness testing (barcol, shore A, shore D) and mechnical testing (flexural, lapshear/tensile tests, and climbing drum peel tests)
  • Maintaining test records and analysis results to ensure traceability requirements and demonstrate proficiency
  • Adhere to safety procedures and guidelines in the use of test equipment and in test activities at all times
  • Support all relevant functions; promote and support a culture of continuous improvement within the team

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of materials testing / NDT and Lab / Quality experience is desirable but not essential
  • Team Leader experience
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Strong practical skills with a high level of manual dexterity
  • Good concentration levels, attention to detail and methodical approach
  • Well-organised; able to manage a range of activities and priorities
  • The ability to follow written and verbal instructions and accurately keep records
  • Computer literate, Windows based
  • A good team player with a flexible attitude to work load/tasks and a continuous improvement mind-set
  • A strong desire to learn and develop
  • A safety-conscious approach to work
  • Must be reliable, have the ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
