Senior Quality Improvement Engineer

We are a market leader in Aerospace and Defence, working with exciting technologies and materials to design and build some of the world’s most advanced composite structures. We are seeking an experienced Senior Quality Improvement Engineer to join our busy Quality function based at our sites in Crewkerne, Somerset. This role may also be required to travel to our Portland site from time to time. The Senior Quality Improvement Engineer is responsible for leading and promoting Quality Engineering and Improvement principles throughout the business.


 - Manage and lead the NCR process

- Lead Material Review Boards and ensure follow-through on all assigned actions arising

 - Manage customer returns and concerns; liaise with customers and suppliers as required, providing a prompt and comprehensive response

 - Undertake root cause analysis (using 5 Why/8D and other appropriate methods) and implementation of corrective and preventive action for process related/product defect issues

 - Responsible for using Lean Manufacturing methodology to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Quality Management System by undertaking continual improvement activities

 - Carry out internal quality auditing

 - Liaise with Engineering and Operations to ensure quality considerations are addressed for all NPI, CI and ongoing projects

 - Organise and lead cross-functional teams to investigate and resolve Quality issues

 - Undertake key Quality Improvement projects

 - Coach, mentor and train work colleagues to develop Quality capability and performance

 - Support all relevant functions, promote and develop a culture of continuous improvement across the business


 - Previous experience in Aerospace or an AS9100 environment in a Quality role

 - Engineering apprenticeship and/or Mechanical/Quality Engineering qualification

 - Internal auditing qualification and/or training

 - A full understanding of Non-Conformance Reporting (NCRs) and experience of review, investigation and resolution of manufacturing non-conformances

 - Strong working knowledge of Six Sigma disciplines

 - Must be task/achievement focussed

 - Good practical skills with a high level of manual dexterity

 - Highly accurate, strong attention to detail and methodical approach; excellent problem solving skills

 - The ability to accurately compile and maintain records

 - Proficient in data collection and analysis, use of graphs, trend analysis

 - Computer literate, Windows based – strong oral and written communication skills

 - Continuous Improvement, safety-focused and quality-oriented mindset

 - A good team player, able to work on own initiative, with a flexible attitude to work load

 - Must be reliable, consistent, and have high standards of professional integrity
