Stores person/Junior Buyer

Tods Defence is a specialist manufacturer of advanced composite structures for the marine defence industry. Based in Portland, Dorset, we have been producing sonar domes, acoustic windows and coatings, and other complex structures for over 60 years. We work with exciting technologies and materials to design and build advanced composite structural components and assemblies. We are seeking a Junior Buyer to join our Procurement team at our site in Portland, Dorset.

This is a broad role, and will initially focus on Goods-Inwards and Stores function, with additional support for Buying and Purchasing as and where required. Some experience of buying would be beneficial, but training will be given.

The role will be responsible for all administrative and practical duties to ensure the efficient operation of stores and support procurement, safety and security activities in line with business requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Check and book in goods received against relevant purchase order IAW Goods In procedure, and inspect against Quality certifications
  • Update and maintain Goods Outward Register, including dispatch to customers and notifying Finance of items dispatched
  • Maintain accurate stock records
  • Assist in procurement activities as delegated by the designated manager
  • Inform suppliers of incomplete or unacceptable deliveries for non-quality related issues (shortages, damage, missing paperwork including quality certification)
  • Dispense consumable and BOM items to Production
  • Record issues of stock on MACS system
  • Inform relevant personnel if internal inspection required
  • Load and unload of goods by safe use of forklift truck (when trained)
  • Liaise with Procurement to keep consumable items above minimum stock level
  • Practice stock rotation to ensure that goods are used within their shelf-life
  • Manage the OOL List in accordance with Company Process
  • Kit bought out items against MACS and BOM
  • Manage the quarantine of goods in accordance with Company BMS
  • Maintain a tidy and organised work environment in line with Health and Safety requirements.
  • Complete and keep up to date relevant documentation including stock records, resin and glass cloth records
  • Follow safe systems of work in all work areas, being particularly vigilant in freezers
  • Ensure All Material issued to shop floor has SDS and COSHH RA
  • Support Security Controller in managing classified parts and undertaking security admin tasks as assigned

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Good practical skills with a high level of manual dexterity
  • Fork Lift Licence (or able to qualify for)
  • Computer literate – Office packages
  • The ability to follow written and verbal instructions and accurately keep record
  • Experience in purchasing, expediting and order book management, as well as awareness of ISO9001 and AS9100 Business Quality Management preferably in the Defence sector would be an advantage
  • Good communicator, both internally and externally with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to manage a number of priorities and reprioritise to meet changing needs/circumstances
  • Good concentration level and attention to detail
  • A safety-conscious approach to work
  • Must be reliable and consistent, have the ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
  • A good team player with a flexible attitude to work load
