Structural Engineer

We are a market leader in Aerospace composite manufacturing, working with exciting technologies and materials to design and build advanced composite structural components and assemblies. We are seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join our Engineering team at our sites in Crewkerne, Somerset.

This role is responsible for undertaking design tasks as defined by the Engineering Manager using computer aided engineering (CAE) analysis tools, and in conjunction with the Senior Structural Engineer, defining design methodology and providing design solutions that satisfy design to cost and design for manufacture best practice.

A good understanding of composite materials is required for this role, and stress analysis experience in an Aerospace environment is beneficial.

This role follows a day shift pattern and the flexibility to do overtime and/or work late shifts is beneficial.

The role

Your daily work activities will include to:

 - carry out design analysis to ensure the project scope of work and technical specification is met in full.

 - provide engineering technical support for other functions. Advise on material selection and processing. Develop designs into production ready product that meets the requirement specification.

 - produce technical reports in support of analysis and material testing.

 - ensure all design activity and project work is carried out to Company procedures or overriding customer requirements.

 - when directed to be Project owner, take responsibility for design file management, project resource management, project schedule adherence and project budget management, and providing monthly reports to the Engineering Manager/relevant Project management team on project performance as required.

 - provide timely engineering responses to Technical Queries.

 - liaise with internal stakeholders, external suppliers and the customers and ensure that the New Product Introduction process is adhered to.

 - undertake continuous personal development and keep abreast of industry specific design engineering developments and innovation.

The person

You will have:

 - relevant Engineering further education or equivalent experience and further professional training.

 - aerospace, composites and manufacturing process support experience.

 - proven stress analysis experience of applicable structures, use of MSC NASTRAN/ PATRAN (or similar FE software) and hand calculations.

 - working knowledge of Engineering Office procedures.

 - the ability to communicate assertively and professionally at all levels with internal & external contacts; and demonstrate strong verbal & written communication and presentation skills.

 - a high level of accuracy approach, strong attention to detail and methodical approach; able to write thorough and clear reports.

 - a results-driven approach and have the ability to manage multiple priorities, working to tight deadlines.

 - a good level computer literacy (MS Office) and preferable experience in programming and use of tools such as Visual Basic.

 - a good team player approach with a flexible attitude to work load.
